Youpi 4tet - Salle Fitzgerald, showcase
Youpi Quartet was born from the meeting of Laurent Maur, surprising harmonica play who is to be considered as the worthy heir of Toots Thielmans, and Emilie Calmé, a bansuri student (a classic indian transverse flute) of Hariprasaad Chaurasia. They have been traveling the world for eight years (India, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Europe...). Back in 2015, they cross the path of another singular duo: the one carried by Curtis Efoua, drummer and winner of the 2015 “Jazz de la Defense” Best Instrumentalist Competition, and Ouriel Ellert, renown bassist from the stages of Paris. Those two adapted their game to the quartet one so smoothly that we could almost forget the lack of harmonic instruments. Emilie, Laurent, Curtis and Ouriel compose for the project each in their on way, with their own influences. The deliciously spiced jazz directory of the Youpi quartet is to be discovered on their first album “No Man's Land”, produced by Inouie Distribtion.
