Cécile Andrée Quartet - Salle Fitzgerald
First, there’s her voice, airy and sensitive, as captivating when she delivers lyrics as when she free-styles with scat.
A timbre that pulls you in from the very first notes of The Wheel of Life to open the set. Then, there are the melodies, dense and beautifully haunting, most of which she wrote and arranged, crosses between modern jazz and pop. Finally, the use of haiku (in three songs), a concise and structured form of Japanese poetry where the verses are inspired by observation, internal emotions, passing time, and the evanescence of the world around us.
