Sarah Lenka - Salle Fitzgerald

Jazz singer Sarah Lenka draws from the songs of 19th century slave women in the United States. A vibrant homage to the women of yesteryear, a very topical subject today.

With her sensitivity, Sarah Lenka has always approached singing as a way of liberating the emotions that flow through her. Known for her very personal interpretations, her gravelly timbre, and the seductive texture of her voice, she has built a career in the folk and jazz worlds. Women have always been the central theme for her as a singer. She started with Billie Holiday, who she felt sang her buried emotions, then Bessie Smith, who sang of her life, unrefined and raw, who broke norms, who asserted herself and paved a long path for all women who came after her.
