Nuphar Fey - Showcase Salle Firtzgerald
Nuphar Fey, piano / Haggai Cohen Milo, double bass / Ziz Ravitz, drums
In the past three years, Israeli born pianist Nuphar Fey has been raising interest in the international jazz scene. With her uniquely crystallized piano touch, an impressively wide range of dynamics, and compositions that combine influences of classical, impressionistic, jazz and cinematic music in a beautiful and almost mystical way, she presents something different to listen to.
Fey brings a strong female leader presence to the current scene, being free-spirited and abundant, radiating charisma and ease with which she draws the listener in with both elegance and force.
Her latest album - Serenity Island (Hypnote Records, 2020) - was reviewed as "a major achievement" by DownBeat magazine, presenting music that is characterized by strong lyrical themes and an out-of-the-box rhythmic and harmonic approach. A full manifold of influences are tastefully combined to capture a unique musical imprint.
The trio performs mostly Fey's original compositions in a fresh perspective. Exploring this traditional jazz format with a classical chamber music approach, playing on the line of the thoughtfully composed and masterfully improvised, her music seems to create the impression of sounding like much more than three instruments, as described by reviews and audience.
Nuphar Fey's trio has performed in Israel, Europe, and New York, before releasing the album Serenity Island which has been receiving praising reviews around the globe.
