François Poitou quintet - Showcase Espace Gould
François Poitou, double bass / Federico Casagrande, guitare / Maxime Berton, bass clarinet & soprano sax / Bastien Ribot, violin / Aude Marie Duperret, alto
The double bassist and composer, François Poitou, takes us into a personal universe, a modern jazz tinged with classical. The originality of the orchestration mixing the sound of the string quartet and jazz trio gives this project a particular sound, a cinematic and aerial "chamber jazz".
A first album "Funambule", hailed by critics (Les Inrocks, Jazz Mag, Jazz News, Citizen Jazz, France Musique, TSF Jazz...), was released in May 2017. This first album will be ranked among the 10 best French jazz albums by Les Inrockuptibles and awarded a HIT Couleurs Jazz.
The 2nd album "Le sec et la lune" will be released on May 24, 2019. Same quintet and same universe, this album is presented as the sequel to " Funambule ". François Poitou invites the singer Emel Mathlouthi, muse of the Tunisian revolution, to perform her song Layem, rearranged for the occasion.
