Originally from Créteil, French pianist Simon Denizart arrived in Montreal in 2011. Initially working with the Canadian label “The 270 Sessions”, he produced three albums, Between Two Worlds (2015), Beautiful People (2016) and Darkside (2017), then a fourth album NOMAD, with the French label “Laborie Jazz”, which offers a dynamic and original encounter between the piano and the calabash. In 2023, he began a new collaboration with the prestigious Canadian label “Justin Time Records”, which produced his fifth album: Piece of Mind.
Supported for many years by musicians recognised on both the national and international scene, Simon offers us an orchestral work in eight movements which provides a powerful, introspective journey into his musical world. Always sensitive to developing new sounds and acoustics with the piano, Simon offers solid melodic and rhythmic playing, supported by virtuosos Elli Miller Maboungou and Michel Medrano Brindis. Jonathan Arseneau’s electric bass brings an unrivalled groove to the compositions and sometimes transforms into an electric guitar, thanks to the bassist’s wide range of effects. Finally, the string trio present on half the compositions transports the listener into the cinematographic world of the French pianist. With tones borrowed from jazz, classical and electronic music, Simon Denizart offers a unique sound rooted in his time.
