Christophe Imbs “Soft Power”

Christophe Imbs quartet à Jammin'Juan le 7 novembre

Christophe Imbs: piano, effects, compositions
Baptiste Stanek: tenor saxophone
Joan Eche-Puig: double bass
Elie Martin-Charrière: drums

Pianist and composer Christophe Imbs, a major figure on the Strasbourg artistic scene, returns to the forefront with his 3rd album, SOFT POWER, bringing renewed sparkle to the jazz quartet. SOFT POWER’s music is intense, like a boxing match, with its strong moments, others interrupted, its victories and knockouts. Pieces that exude his personality, ranging from caress to punch, from drops of tears to beads of sweat. The acoustic piano is boosted by effects pedals that Christophe Imbs uses live to push the limits of his instrument. So he switches from lyricism to powerful riffs, from rapid scratching to electro trances. Christophe Imbs places no hierarchy on his musical influences, regardless of their schizophrenic background – they’re raw emotions he transforms into musical phrases, in his own way.
“SOFT POWER is a reflection of my internal struggles: I’ve only ever known how to live through intense emotions. It’s a constant battle I try to manage with maximum self-deprecation! I’m always HYPER: hyper-sensitive, hyper-extreme, hyper-emotional, hyper-complicated. Like SOFT POWER, I’m an oxymoron all to myself and I can’t give up any of the parts I’m made of. I am a perfectionist, but not always hyper “in hand ”! Christophe Imbs
