Project : Mano Figa
“July 25, 1990, my steps first touch the soil of a new continent. The airport doors open, and a heavy, humid atmosphere envelops me. For the little boy I was at the time, this is not just a change of country, it is a change of world: I have just landed in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela !
My family and I have come to visit my Aunt Manolita, 30 years after she fled the Francoist dictatorship. She will give me a small wooden pendant adorned with gold that I have worn around my neck ever since, the “Mano Figa,” a symbol dating back to Ancient Rome and adopted across South America, with many meanings !
October 2022, I return to explore this continent again, its people, and their cultures. Two consecutive years of tours where, thanks to the Alliance Française of Lima and the dedication of Frédéric Robinel, I was able to share the stage with Peruvian musicians !
I return to France with my suitcases full of Afro-Caribbean and flamenco-inspired music, reflecting my maternal Hispanic roots ! It is these journeys that I invite you to discover, as well as my story.” Nicolas Gardel
